Lucy Jane Allgood Richards

Lucy Jane Allgood Richards, a cherished centenarian, whose vivacious spirit and unwavering love for her family illuminated the lives of those around her, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in Appling, GA.

Born on July 18, 1925, in Elberton, GA to Thomas Roy Allgood and Carrie Drucilla Dixon Allgood, she grew up in Elberton and made her home there and in Wilkes County, later setting down roots in Thomson, GA where she lived for 40 fulfilling years. Her personality was a beacon of light, and her sense of humor was as legendary as her kindness.

Throughout her early years, Lucy worked in a sewing factory in Washington and later as a beautician. An outdoor enthusiast, Lucy found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of nature. She could often be found tending to her garden and cutting grass, a labor of love that allowed her to cultivate beauty and nourishment for her family. Her passion for cooking was another form of nurturing, as she delighted in preparing meals and hosting lunches that would gather her loved ones around the table frequently. She continued to cook well into her 80s, a testament to her enduring spirit and love of family tradition. Her recipes and the love with which she prepared each dish will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to enjoy them.

She is survived by her husband, Emory Kent Richards; her 104-year-old sister, Nancy Burton of Cumming, GA; grandchildren; Robert Wayne Wilson (Ashley), Darren Scott, Mark Wilson, Carmen Scott, Stacey Rayle (Heath), Karen Ray (Darren), Jarod Scott, Joni Wilson, Susan Wilson, John Robert Wilson, Jeremy Bowman, Cindy Osborne (Darwin), and Mike Cushman (Melanie); many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law: Jewel Wilson and Pam Wilson; and her chosen family members: Tracy Richards, April Woods, and Gladell Worley, who held special places in her heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Roy Allgood and Carrie Drucilla Dixon Allgood; husband; Dunston Baker Worley, Jr.; siblings, James E. Allgood, Bell Lovingood, Louise Martin, Inez Haynie, and Tommie Hall; and her children, Charles Wilson, Ray Wilson, Robert H. “Buddy” Wilson, and Barbara Scott.
