Mrs. Marion Lee Almond Scales passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 16, 2021. She was 90 years young.
She was the wife of the late Joseph William “Billy” Scales. John T. and Mattie Thornton were her parents, and after their deaths, she lived with her grandparents, Benjamin and Mollie Thornton. She was later adopted by Caron “Tip” and Ottie Mae Thornton Almond. Mrs. Scales was a homemaker and a charter member of West End Baptist Church.
She leaves two wonderful daughters: Billie Carol Scales Craig of N. Augusta, SC and Brenda Scales Rousey and her husband Steve of Elberton. She also leaves grandsons: Bill Craig of Bethel, CT, Shawn Callaway, and Wesley Callaway, both of Elberton; granddaughters: Cathy Craig of Evans and Casey Callaway Moon of Elberton; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Alice House, Virginia Booth, Bruce Thornton, David Thornton, Tim Prince, and Ricky Wheatley.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Ruby Mae Haygood, Mary Eaven, and George Thornton.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, December 20, at 11 o’clock from the graveside in Forest Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Eric Brookshire officiating.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to First Baptist Church of Elberton Ramp Ministry.
