Mary Anne Dye McGee, age 88, of Kingstree, SC, formerly of Elberton GA, died Sunday, June 25, 2023, after a brief illness. Born and raised in Elbert County, she was the daughter of Floyd Seaborn and Ruby Smith Dye. As one of nine children, she was raised in a home full of love where she was taught early the value of hard work and the importance of family. She carried these values into her adult life and passed them on to her children as a lasting legacy. She married her sweetheart, Frank Curtis McGee in 1954 and they enjoyed 43 years of adventures that took them as far as Paris, France and then back to her Elbert County roots.
She was retired from USDA having served as a program administrator for the ASCS division in Elberton for 33 years. She treasured all of the relationships she formed helping farmers in her community.
“Grandmama,” as she was affectionately known, loved gardening, her grandchildren, and cleaning. Something wasn’t clean until it was “Grandmama” clean. She was the epitome of a quiet southern lady but she didn’t miss an opportunity to make her grandkids laugh with her quick wit and sense of humor.
She is survived by her children: Frank Curtis McGee Jr. (Kim) of Rincon, GA and Toni McGee Ward (JW) of Kingstree, SC; grandchildren: Linlei Anne Ward (Ron Feagin), Brittany Noel Andrews, James Curtis Ward (Kayla), Kayleigh Jo McGee, and Skyler Lane McGee; two great grandchildren: Carli Noel Andrews and James Pierce Ward; and sisters: Sara McCannon, Esther Woodard, and Linda Dye.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mary Anne was predeceased by her siblings: Floyd Dye Jr, Thomas L. Dye, Dora W. Dye, Betty Dye Bond, and Kathleen Dye Griffith.
A graveside service will be held at Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton, GA on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11:00am.
