Mary Lizzie Favor Dean

Mary Lizzie Favor Dean was born on October 1, 1940 in Wilkes County, Georgia to Stacy Favor and Helen Mathis Favor.

She graduated from Washington-Wilkes High School in 1961. She joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Rayle, Georgia at a young age. Mary eventually moved to Elberton where she met and married Horace “June Bug” Dean, Jr., and together they had one daughter, Yvonne, the apple of their eye. In recent years, she joined Union Grove Baptist Church in Elberton where she enjoyed the honor of being the oldest member and the oldest mother of the church. She also loved to sing and was a member of the choir until her health began to fail. God saw she was tired and called her home to Gloy on August 28, 2022.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Favor; her husband, Horace Dean, Jr.; and three cousins.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her beloved daughter, Yvonne Dean of the home; step-son, Stanley Dean of Gainesville; special goddaughter, Eulalia (Darryl) Daniel of Elberton; sister, Iretta Favor of Grayson; uncle, James Mays of Stone Mountain; two aunts: Fannie Lou Booker and Ruby Mays, both of Atlanta; special girlfriend, Alice Cleveland of Elberton; a very special friend of 36 years, Deacon Ezel Land of Elberton; and a host of cousins, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 1 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with burial following in the City West Cemetery in Washington.
