Mary Powell Brown

Mrs. Mary Lenice Powell Brown, 97, of Elberton, GA passed away Sunday, September 6, 2026 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Mrs. Brown was born January 8, 1929 in Elberton, GA to Maylon Powell and Lucy Julia Teasley Powell Gulley. She was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, a former cashier at Winn-Dixie grocery store, a retired cashier from Granite City Bank - Regions Bank after 27 years of service. After retirement she worked as a greeter at the Walmart of Elberton for 23 years.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Michael D. “Mike” Brown and Denise Brown, Mark A. Brown and Celina Brown; grandchildren: Jessica (Tyler), Jennifer (Grayson), Gatlin (Maddie), Chesnee (Carson), great-grandchildren: Owen, Noah, Gunnar and Adler and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: David Cecil Brown, Jr. and siblings: Burma Jean Emerson, Ruby Alexander, Wilbur Powell, Robert Powell, Travis Powell and Fred Gulley.

Funeral services to celebrate Mary’s life will be held 2PM, Thursday, September 10, 2026 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Creason officiating. The family will receive friends from 12PM to 1:45PM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery with Bruce Herring, Barry Herring, Bob Gomez, Buddy Brown, Terry Emerson and Melvin Jennings serving as pallbearers.

Flowers are optional and memorials can be made in her memory to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 1020 Jack McVeigh Drive, Elberton, GA 30635.The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Magnolia Estates for their loving care of Mary for these last years.
