Mary Frances Boyles Schutz

Mrs. Mary Frances Boyles Schutz, 87, of Beaver Run Extension, Bowman, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia.

Mary was born in Shelbyville, MO on July 13, 1937, daughter of the late Carson Orville Boyles and Ada Frances Wright Boyles. Affectionately known as “Granny Mary”, she never missed an opportunity to take care of her children and grandchildren. She loved working in her flower gardens, and playing games – her favorites were Yahtzi, Trouble, and Old Maid.

Survivors include her children: Debbie Kay Ward of Elberton, Beth Lynn Smith of Royston, Mark Ray Wood and Kathy of Dewy Rose, and Susan Ann Smith and Paul of Royston; sister, Carol Landers; grandchildren: Doug, Chad, Brian, Kayla, Brad, Jody, Melissa, Tyler, and Hannah; great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Anna Belle, Elijah, Cyrus, Mason, Jackson, Ariel, Amara, Brantley, Braden, Bristol, Bella, Abigail, Madalynn, Isabella, and Luna; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Along with her parent, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Glenn Schutz; son, James Francis Wood; grandsons: Rusty Smith and Justin Smith; son-in-law, Kenneth Ward; and siblings: Bill Boyles, Joyce Dillard, and Juanita Coe.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 5, from 5:00-7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating Mary’s life will be conducted on Tuesday, May 6, at 11:00a.m. from the graveside in Bowman’s Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Steve Cowart will officiate, and she will be laid to rest beside her beloved son James.
