Mary Viola Moon Allgood, 92, of Veribest Community of Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, while surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 6, 1933, Mrs. Allgood was a proud graduate of Oglethorpe County High School, Class of 1950. She and her late husband of 52 years, Tom Allgood, were longtime pillars of their community, owning and operating Tom’s Place for over 20 years. Known for her warm smile and unmatched hospitality, Viola was especially famous for her biscuits—making 100 a day and generously volunteering her time and talents for church ham and egg suppers. Mrs. Allgood was the oldest member of Burts United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Allgood; her son, Jerrell Allgood; her parents, Edwin Marvin Moon and Rachel Mary McCannon Moon; and siblings: John Marvin “Bud” Moon and Patricia Ann Roberts.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Angela Allgood; four grandchildren: Patti Lynn Allgood Turner (Jason), Jamie Thomas Allgood (Candice), Andrea Stefanie Manley (Daniel), and Shyanne Thomas Allgood (Annelise); and nine great-grandchildren: Joseph Thomas Turner, Nora Grace Turner, Jaxson Thomas Allgood, Jake Thomas Allgood, Joey Thomas Allgood, Adalynne Claire Manley, Everette Luke Manley, Lane Thomas Allgood, and Beau Thomas Allgood. She also leaves behind her sister, Sarah Frances Moss; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
In her final days, Mrs. Allgood was lovingly cared for by her daughter Angela in the comfort of her home—formerly Tom’s Place—now thoughtfully renovated as her residence. Viola’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Visitation will be from 3:00-4:00p.m. and the funeral service will follow at 4:30p.m., all at Burts United Methodist Church, Veribest Enterprise Road, Carlton, GA 30627. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, and a reception will follow the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.
Flowers are accepted, and contributions may be made in her memory to Burts United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Steve McCannon, 159 Veribest Road, Lexington, GA 30648.
In honoring her memory, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Viola to join them in celebrating a life well lived—marked by love, service, and the simple joy of a homemade biscuit.
