Mrs. Mat Tavie Almond, age 100, of Dewy Rose, died November 25, 2008. She was born in Elbert County to the late William David Brown and Mary Ida King Brown.She was a member of the Darcus Sunday School Class at Dewy Rose Baptist Church where she has been a lifetime member. She is survived by her son, Norris (and his wife, Mary Alice) Almond of Dewy Rose; daughters, Joyce (and her husband, Turnes) Simmons of Elberton, Carolyn Vickery of Elberton; grandchildren, Chuck Almond of Dewy Rose, Keith Almond of Gay, Eddie Almond of Olin, NC, Clayton Simmons of Chesapeake, VA, Yvonne Burden of Dewy Rose, Connie Dean of Piedmont, SC, and Debbie King ofElberton; 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-greatson. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 28 at 2:00 PM in Hicks Funeral Home Chapel.Rev. Gary Purvis officiating.The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.At other times the family will be at the residence of Carolyn Vickery, 1147 Sutton Way, Elberton.In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Almond’s name to Dewy Rose Baptist Church. Hicks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
