On Tuesday afternoon, February 10, 2026, Mrs. Ann Maxwell Vaughn passed away at her residence. She was 90 years old.
The fifth of five children, Patricia Ann Maxwell was born in Elberton on April 28, 1935, to Roy Marco Maxwell and Belle Estelle Fortson Maxwell. She was a 1953 graduate of Elberton High School. Ann married the love of her life, Beverly Morris Vaughn on Christmas Day 1953, and they became the proud parents of Beverly Morris, Jr., William Steven, and Patricia Dale. She and Beverly enjoyed nearly 49 years of marriage before his untimely death on April 11, 2002.
Ann worked briefly at the sewing plant in Bowman, but is most remembered from her tenure with Gallant-Belk on the Elberton Square. She later worked as a receptionist at ACTION, Inc. and retired from Advantage Behavioral. Ann was a member of Dewy Rose Baptist Church and looked forward to serving in the kitchen during the youth program on Wednesday evenings.
Always one to stay active, she loved traveling - no matter the direction in which the car would go. Ann collected cookbooks from all of her trips, and never hesitated to try a new recipe from one of them. She was known amongst her family for always having a pan of fresh biscuits waiting for anyone who may stop by. In her later years, Ann enjoyed fellowshipping with the Widow’s Ministry of Deep Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Bev and Sherrie Vaughn of Dewy Rose, Bill and Lynn Vaughn of Dewy Rose, and Pat Anderson of Elberton. “Nannie Ann” also leaves behind her grandchildren: Kristen and Ryan Albertson, April and Scott Vetterkind, Michael and Hannah Vaughn, Brad and Amber Vaughn, Brad and Shawn Cleveland, Amy Vaughn, Hannah and Rico Martinez, Jay and Corbin Anderson, and Ross and Emily Anderson; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Joel Anderson, Jr.; and siblings: LaNell Blackmon, Francis Fortson “Frank” Maxwell, Laura Belle Brown, and Mable Jo McLanahan.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Thursday, February 12, from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Ann’s life will be conducted on Friday, February 13, at 2:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Interment will be in the Doves Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Flowers are accepted, and contributions may be made in her memory to the church or charity of one’s choice.
