Rickey Joe Newton

Rickey Joe Newton, 64, of Abbeville, SC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood, SC.

"He was born in Abbeville, SC on March 1, 1961. He was raised in and spent most of his life in Calhoun Falls, SC. Rickey was a son of the late Carl Edward Newton and Mattie Burns Whitman Newton.

He was a proud 1979 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School, and well as a proud graduate of Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, SC. Rickey spent his life as an antiques dealer and picker, having bought, sold, and collected many antique pieces. He placed many fine southern antiques in private and museum collections across South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina. Rickey loved yard sales, estate sales, auctions, and particularly The Wednesday Market in Pickens, SC. He was of the Baptist faith.

Rickey was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and along with his parents, is preceded in death by his siblings: Betty Que Newton Todd, James Edward “Jimmy” Newton, and Carl Julian Newton. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins who were like siblings to him. He also leaves behind a host of friends, including Darrell and Denise Brown and David and Lori Burton.

Burial will be in the Newton Family Plot at Salem Cemetery in Latimer, SC where a friend will recite the Twenty Third Psalm.

The family will host a celebration of Rickey's life on Sunday, November 23, at 3:00p.m. at Salem Cemetery in Latimer, SC.
