Mr. Robert Lawson “Bob” Weston, 88, of Parkwood Drive, Elberton, husband of 64 years to Mary Kathryn Nelson Weston, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at PruittHealth at Spring Valley.
Bob was born in Eagle Lake, FL on August 17, 1937, son of the late Robert Bowman Weston and Velma Mae Jones Weston. He was a 1955 graduate of Terrell County, GA High School and served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force as a Radar Technician.
Following his Air Force Service, Bob moved to California where he furthered his education at Mt. San Antonio College. It was at Mt. San Antonio where he met the love of his life, Mary Kathryn Nelson. The two were wed in 1961, and their love story of over 64 years grew to include two daughters, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, all of whom “Papa” loved dearly.
A hardworking man, he was an entrepreneur who had many business ventures throughout his life. Retirement in 2002 resulted in a move to Elberton where Bob and Mary enjoyed RVing, being active in their church, and becoming full-time grandparents - his greatest job of all. In his free time, he enjoyed working in his yard and reading. He enjoyed taking his 1973 International Harvester Truck to the annual classic car show on Elberton’s Downton square. Bob’s sense of humor and ability to make people laugh will be remembered forever.
In addition to his wife Mary, Bob is survived by his daughters: Susan Weston Kubas and her husband Chris of Elberton and Jennifer Weston Plaisted and her husband Chad of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren: Katelynn Kubas Edwards and her husband Josh, currently stationed at Anacoco, LA, Anna Kubas of Denver, CO, John Plaisted of Johnson City, TN, and Kathryn Plaisted of Johnson City, TN; great-granddaughter, Audrey Elaine Edwards; sister, Sara Morin of Conway, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann Creel.
Bob’s life will be celebrated during a funeral service on Thursday, April 30, at 4:00p.m. in the Sanctuary of his beloved First Methodist Church of Elberton. Rev. John Donaldson will be officiating, and Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force. The family will greet friends from 3:00p.m. until 3:45p.m. prior to the service.
A family graveside service will be held in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.
Flowers are accepted. Contributions may be made in his memory to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or online at t2t.org.
