Mr. Ronald Benjamin “Ron” Martin, 78, of W. Hendricks Street, Bowman, husband of 54 years to Camilla ‘Joyce’ Jones Martin, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at his residence, following a 30 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
Mr. Martin was born in Royston on December 11, 1943, son of the late Benjamin Jerome Martin and Callie Aaron Martin. He was employed with Claude Ray Ford Sales where he retired after 30 years of service as a car salesman, and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. Ron was also a member of Primrose Masonic Lodge #79 where he was a Master Mason. He was proud of his service in the United States Air Force, and remained patriotic until the very end. Ron enjoyed traveling as long as his health permitted, and was an avid UGA fan.
Above all, Ron loved his family dearly. He leaves behind his wife, Joyce; children: Susan Martin and Ronald Powell of Helen and Ronald Gregory “Greg” Martin and his wife Amanda of Lavonia; grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pop”: Abigail Martin, Benjamin Martin, Zachary Martin and Jade Brown; sisters: Gloria Newitt of Marietta and Peggy Hegwood and her husband Roger of Kathleen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Tuesday, November 1, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Graveside services celebrating Ron’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 2, at 11 o’clock at Hillcrest Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating.
Ron was adamant that no suits and ties be worn, and the family hopes you will honor his request by dressing casually.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to Elbert County Emergency Medical Services, 112 Mahoney Drive, Elberton, GA 30635 or to Kindred Hospice, 575 Research Drive, Suite A, Athens, GA 30605.
Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at www.berryfh.com.
Berry Funeral Home & Crematory of Elberton is respectfully in charge of arrangements for Mr. Ronald Benjamin “Ron” Martin.
