Mr. Ronald Louis “Ronnie” Blackmon, 80, of Bowman Highway, Elberton, husband of 57 years to Lynn Hill Blackmon, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, December 5, 2025, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family.
The oldest of three boys, Ronnie was born in Elberton on February 24, 1945. He was a 1963 graduate of Elberton High School, and was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. Ronnie’s service to others continued through his many years as an EMT and LPN at Elbert County Hospital. He later went to work for the Georgia Department of Public Safety, from where he retired.
Ronnie was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed many years of working with horses. He later enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling, as well as taking advantage of any opportunity to gather with friends to play poker. Above all, “Granddaddy” loved his family dearly, supporting and cheering them on in any of their endeavors.
He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Donna Lee Blackmon Seymour; father, Robert Louis Blackmon; mother, Sara Lee Wallace Butler; step-father, Frank James Butler; brother, Larry Blackmon; parents-in-law, Clifton B. “Pete” and Sarah Etrulia Brewer Hill; and sister-in-law, Layvonne Belcher.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Lynn, to whom he was married on July 27, 1968; son, Kevin Douglas Blackmon of Elberton; son-in-law, Denny W. Seymour, Jr. and his wife Wendy of Elberton; grandchildren: Jayce and Kyle Bagwell of Elberton, Brayden Seymour of Elberton, Kylie and Jared Coker of Toccoa, Karson Blackmon of Elberton, and Tyler Blackmon of Elberton; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Brodie, Kashton, and Brewer; brother, Calvin Blackmon of Elberton; sister-in-law, Judy Busby Blackmon of Elberton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Myra and Smitty Smith of Mayesville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cliff and Kathy Hill of Homer; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 10, from 3:00-3:45p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Tim Adams, will follow at 4:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Hill Family Cemetery in Homer. During other times, the family may be contacted at the residence.
