Russell LaMotte Williams

Mr. Russell LaMotte Williams, affectionately known as “Russ”, died suddenly but peacefully at his residence in Elberton, GA on Monday, August 17, 2026. He was 69.

A native Floridian, Russ was born in Miami on November 28, 1956. He earned a bachelors in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech. Russ worked nationally and abroad as an engineer, retired as an engineering consultant from Time Based Management.

He was a member of Hartwell First Methodist Church. Russ was a gifted artist, specializing in pen and ink art. He enjoyed wood working and was a master gardener.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy George Worley Williams of the residence; son, Michael Laban Williams and his wife Brooke of Asheville, NC; step-daughter, Megan Elizabeth McCurley of Hartwell; brothers and their wives: Doug and Debbie Williams of Texas and Ken and Linda Williams of Idaho; sister and her husband, Gwenda and Ahmad Kiayei of Texas; sister-in-law, Judith Worley of Elberton; grandchildren: Harlow James Williams of Asheville, NC and Hannah and Kevin Peeples of Hartwell; great-grandchildren: Ellie, Rory, and Ryker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Russ is preceded in death by his parents, Laban Wilson Williams and Jacqueline Brown Williams; and sister, Barbara Williams.

A celebration of life service for Russ Williams will be conducted on Saturday, August 22, at 1:00p.m. in the Sanctuary at Hartwell First Methodist Church, officiated by Dr. R. Allan Stewart. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
