Sharon Louise Huff Harris, 71, of Martin Road, Bowman, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital after a courageous four-year battle with brain cancer. She was a devoted and loving woman known for her faith and dedication to her family and community.
Born in Elberton on January 25, 1955, Sharon was the eldest of nine children. She lived a full life marked by kindness, service, and unwavering commitment to those she cherished. Sharon was a 1973 graduate of Elbert County High School and married the love of her life, Donald Wayne Harris, on July 20, of the same year.
She worked many years for the United States Postal Service. Beginning in Bowman, and later transferring to Dewy Rose, Sharon retired from the Elberton Post Office as a clerk.
She was a lifelong member of Falling Creek Baptist Church where she expressed her love for God and others through faithful service. Sharon taught the 5th and 6th grade Sunday school class and as well as the 3rd and 4th grade class at times. Beginning in 1989, she taught Children’s Bible Drill, a role she fulfilled with passion until her health declined, making her unable. She was also a choir member and taught children’s church for many years. Her church family was a cornerstone of her life and she loved them dearly.
Those who knew Sharon will remember her as a loving and generous lady who delighted in helping others. She enjoyed shopping trips to Goodwill and yard sales, always finding treasures and securing the best bargain. She loved the outdoors, particularly fishing at Santee, tending to her flower beds, and treasured the time spent with her grandchildren at their sporting events and riding the golf cart, creating precious memories with their beloved "Nana." Sharon also enjoyed vacations to Myrtle Beach, attending shows at The Carolina Opry, and partaking in a good all-you-can-eat seafood buffet.
Above all else, Sharon’s family was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her mother, Roosa Lou Moon Huff; husband of nearly 53 years, Donald Wayne Harris; her children: Lorie (Chadd) Smith, Wesley (Meghan) Harris, and Keri (Matt) Amabile; her grandchildren: Jonathon, Brayden, Kayleigh, Samuel, Nate, Carson, Brantley, Breleigh, Paxton, and Harris; her great-grandchild, Gracelyn; siblings: Douglas (Deborah) Huff, Sandra (Jimmy) Mize, Danny (Pam) Huff, Becky Sims, Ricky (Paige) Huff, Paul (Joyce) Huff, Tracie (Greg) Smith, and Amy (Luther) Evans; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives who were blessed by her presence. She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Russell Huff, as well as her mother in law, Betty “Big Ma” Harris, both of whom she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends on SATURDAY, MAY 23, from 1:00p.m. until 3:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Sharon's life will be conducted on SUNDAY, MAY 24, at 3:00p.m. in the sanctuary of her beloved Falling Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 1020 Jack McVeigh Drive, Elberton, GA 30635.
