Shirley Lynn Alewine Thurmond Compton, 52, of Rock Branch Road, Elberton, GA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at John and Callie Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC following a courageous battle with her health.
Shirley was born on April 2, 1973, while in route to the hospital. Her little body technically was not quite ready, but that did not stop her from steadily growing to become a healthy, happy little girl. From the beginning, she showed the worked a unique and strong fighting spirit that never changed throughout her time here on earth.
Shirley was the daughter of Faye Brown and the late Candler “Gene” Brown, who she lovingly called her Pops. She had a special bond with her grandparents who helped raise her, the late Clem Grubbs and Cora Grubbs.
She attended Franklin County High School and worked in the convenience retail industry during before her health started to decline. Shirley really was a special person who had a sweet kind heart that others were drawn towards. This resulted in her having a way to form unique connections with nor just family but friends everywhere.
She loved being the love of her life, Jack Compton, and their two fur babies that she shared a home with and adored. In addition to her mother and partner, she is survived by her little sister, Jackie Brown Price who she called “Lil Baba” and who she was proud to be the big sister of; nephews, Candler Price (Kayla Stone) and Tyson Price (Stephanie Colunga); great-niece, Paisley Price; great-nephew, Candler Price, Jr.; and close family friend, Alex Turner. She also leaves behind her granddaughter, Melanie and grandson, Sean, who she loved beyond words despite the distance between them; her biological father, Jack Alewine; and several special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom she cherished. Shirley will be missed by everyone.
Her departure has caused a void in the lives of her people that can never be filled, but they take comfort in knowing she is no longer tired, in pain, and fight battles. She will forever be a sweet Angel watching over them.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, Wednesday December 10, 2025 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Stacy Lynch officiating. The family will receive friends from 6PM to 8PM Tuesday night at Berry Funeral Home.
