Stella Smith Angel

Stella Smith Angel, age 79, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 while she was surrounded by her loving daughter and son in law.

Stella was born in Goosepond- Oglethorpe County to the late Garland Smith and Annie Julia Tiller Smith.  She worked for Elberton Manufacturing for 25 years before working in the lunchroom for 10 years at Elbert County Middle School.  While she loved working, Stella decided to retire so she could stay home and care for her ailing husband.  She was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church.

A lover of all God’s creations- she was happiest when she was gardening, tending to her cats, and laughing with her friends.  Before sickness and grief for her husband took its toll on her, Stella enjoyed being in the kitchen, camping, and dancing to anything she could find on the radio. Another hobby that Stella and her husband enjoyed doing together was rambling and finding antiques to restore.

She will be remembered for her jolly spirit and her love of happiness.

Stella is survived by her daughter and son in law, Julie Angel Shirley and Henry Shirley.

She is preceded in death by siblings Bob Smith, Winnie Wallace, and Pete Smith, all of Elberton.

A celebration of life service is planned for Friday, September 29 to be held in honor of what would be the 61st wedding anniversary of Stella and her beloved husband, the late Robert Angel.  A service will begin at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, and the family will host a reception following the service until 6:00 P.M.
