Thomas Horace Smith

Mr. Thomas ‘Horace’ Smith of Danielsville, GA, passed away while in the comfort of his home on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the age of 90. He was the husband of 12 years to Mary Anne Griffeth Sisk Smith, who survives, and of 55 years to Betty Jean Williams Smith, who preceded him in death.

Horace was born in Commerce, GA on February 8, 1936, son of the late Herald Willie Smith and Maerelle Thomas Smith. He was a graduate of Ila High School and enjoyed a longtime career with Southern Bell/AT&T. After retirement, Horace took pride in serving his community through working at Lord and Stephens Funeral Homes.

He was a longtime, faithful member of Moon’s Grove Baptist Church as well as Gideon’s International. Horace enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to the next adventure farm life had to offer.

In addition to his wife Anne, he is survived by his children: Tammy Smith of Jacksonville, FL and Mark Smith of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren: Justin Arthur and his partner Oliver, David Smith, Ian Smith and his wife Kayla, Sarah Smith, and Carter Smith; great-grandchildren: Ryan Smith, Eliza Smith, Sawyer Smith, Haven Arestivo, Iris Arestivo, Noa Arestivo, and Willa Arestivo; sister, Frances Grier and her husband Gary of Flowery Branch, GA; brother-in-law, David Williams of Dunwoody, GA; nephew, Alan Grier and his wife Gabby; and two nieces: Denise and Kathy. He also leaves behind dear friends who are like family: Aaron, Kris, London, and Sonya.

Along with his wife Betty and parents Herald and Maerelle, Horace is preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Lynn Arthur; son-in-law, Brian Smith; sister, Marie Williams; brother, James Smith; and nephew, Joshua Smith.

The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to Horace’s wonderful caregivers: Odessa, Ruby, Sandra, Bonita, Nell, Judy, Tamacia, and Julie, all of whom he loved as family.

A celebration of Horace’s life will be conducted on Saturday, April 11, at 11:00a.m. in the Sanctuary of Moon’s Grove Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Tony Lee will officiate.
