Thomas Wayne Johnson

Mr. Thomas Wayne Johnson, lovingly known as Wayne, passed away on September 11, 2026, at the age of 77.

He was born October 29, 1948 in Elberton, GA, Wayne was a proud United States Navy veteran and a longtime member of Dewy Rose Baptist Church in Dewy Rose, Georgia.

Wayne lived life to the fullest. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener, hunter, and fisherman. Whether he was tending to his garden, enjoying a day in the woods, or spending time fishing, Wayne found great joy in the simple pleasures of life and the beauty of the outdoors.

Those who knew Wayne will remember him for his generous heart, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger. Wayne was a true jokester and had a wonderful sense of humor, always ready with a joke or a funny story that could bring a smile and a laugh to almost any occasion. His warmth, humor, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Waldrop Johnson; daughter, Kristi (Shay) Johnson Gause of Helotes, Texas; son, Jeremy Clint Johnson of Elberton, Georgia; daughter Gina (Dwayne) Whitlock of Cherokee County, Georgia; and his beloved granddaughters, Kate Gause of Spring, Texas; Erin Gause of Helotes, Texas; Olivia Johnson and Presley Johnson of Bogart, Georgia, Madison, Bentley, and Haven Taylor of Cherokee County, Georgia; and great-grandchildren Maebry Whitlock of Cherokee County, Georgia, and Grace Wilkins of Clarke County, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Johnson; his mother, Francis Thornton Johnson; his brothers, Dallas O'Neal Johnson and Jerry Lamar Johnson; and his infant sister, Beverly Jean Johnson, all of Elberton, Georgia.

Memorial services to celebrate Wayne's life will be held 2PM, Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Dewy Rose Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Martin officiating. Interment will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Wayne will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, kindness, stories, and love for the outdoors will live on in the memories of those he leaves behind.
